Dental Veneers

What are Dental Veneers?

Dental Veneers are a thin shell of porcelain or ceramic material bonded onto the front surface of your teeth to improve and enhance their appearance. As a veneer can be any shade or shape you like they’re a great choice for making over your smile.

Veneers are a fix for many common aesthetic problems you might have with your smile. In fact multiple veneers can give your smile a totally different look. Dr Jacobs has studied methods for preserving as much natural tooth as possible when applying veneers so that your smile is not only beautiful but retains strength.

DR PHILIP JACOBS

Veneers are a less invasive alternative to crowning teeth to achieve a white, even smile. So if you are a suitable candidate for veneers they can be the better treatment.

To create a veneer an impression is made of your arch to create a model of your teeth. Dr Phil Jacobs then uses this model to custom design the thin piece of porcelain which will be bonded to the front of your tooth.

Veneers are a cosmetic treatment so even though they are less invasive than crowns you cannot remove them one day and return to your old teeth. This is because during the bonding process some of your tooth enamel always has to be removed.

During a consultation to discuss cosmetic options Dr Jacobs will explain all of the facts about dental veneer treatment that you should consider.

What Problems can Dental Veneers Fix?

  • teeth alignment where orthodontic treatment is not necessary
  • oddly shaped or mismatched teeth
  • lengthening short teeth
  • chipped teeth
  • closing gaps in between teeth
  • creating a white smile for discoloured or stained teeth that don’t respond to whitening treatments

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain is the optimal material for crafting veneers as it is strong and stain resistant and generally thinner than composite veneers. Porcelain veneers must be customised so numerous visits are made to the practice for firstly preparation and models and secondly bonding. During your first appointment as well as creating models, photos will be taken for our technician to improve understanding of your case between the lab and Dr Jacobs.

Dr Philip Jacobs

We work closely with our Southport based technician rather than using an overseas based lab. This gives us certainty about the safety and quality of materials used as well as full control over the appearance of the veneer.

Porcelain veneers cannot be made in one day, it’s a process where our technician has to hand-craft each veneer individually. However the beautiful results you may achieve with porcelain veneers are certainly worth the wait!

Teeth whitening and Veneers are often carried out as a treatment plan to really lift a smile. The whitening is done first then the veneers are matched to the new bright smile.

Composite Veneers

It’s also possible to achieve an amazing smile more affordably with composite veneers. The Edelweiss composite veneer system is an advanced pre-fabricated dental veneer.

“Because Edelweiss veneers are prefabricated, they cost less. But this doesn’t mean you’ll get a pre-fabricated smile.”

DR PHILIP JACOBS

Made using a special laser technology, Edelweiss composite veneers have a durable, ceramic like surface, giving them an extremely natural look. Because they’re so durable, they are less likely to chip or wear down, so you can be confident your new smile will last. However composite veneers are not as strong as porcelain veneers.

Because Edelweiss veneers are prefabricated, they cost less. But this doesn’t mean you’ll get a pre-fabricated smile. Dr Jacobs can customize your composite veneers to match your desired look, the end result is a smile that is uniquely yours. Because the Edelweiss range is sized to fit any tooth you can keep as much natural tooth structure intact as possible for a healthy, beautiful smile.  Retaining your tooth structure helps the veneers to stay firmly in place and maintains tooth strength.

Composite veneers can correct cosmetic problems such as discoloured teeth that don’t respond very well to teeth whitening, chipped or poorly shaped teeth that need improvement, and small gaps between teeth can be closed.

At Hope Island Dental Care you can have the dental veneers you’ve always wanted in one or two appointments and for less money using Edelweiss.
