Night Splints

If you are suffering one or more of these symptoms a possible cause may be grinding or clenching your teeth during sleep:

  • headaches
  • painful teeth when biting
  • sensitive teeth
  • jaw pain
  • face pain

Grinding or clenching can often be due to a stressful or busy lifestyle but unfortunately that can be hard to alter.

Your teeth will be damaged by ongoing clenching or grinding with results such as enamel being worn away, or actual cracking of the teeth. Once teeth are cracked especially there is an escalation in problems.

At Hope Island Dental Care our aim is to take the time to provide comprehensive care at every visit. If we see a problem there’s a way to help.

DR PHILIP JACOBS

During your regular dental examination Dr Jacobs will look for signs of damage and he may suspect grinding or clenching as a source of the problem. Sharing any information with him during your dental exam about symptoms you feel in your mouth, jaw or with headaches is important also.

At Hope Island Dental Care our aim is to take the time to provide comprehensive care at every visit. If we see a problem there’s a way to help.

Night Splints are custom made of a soft plastic – similar to a mouthguard or orthodontic retainer they fully cover your teeth while you sleep so it’s impossible to grind the top and bottom teeth against each other.

Although they may not look pretty night splints are an invaluable item for relieving the symptoms of grinding/clenching plus halting the ongoing damage to natural teeth or existing dental work.
